BaZi in one minute
BaZi (八字, "eight characters") is the Chinese art of reading a birth moment. Each of your four pillars — year, month, day and hour — pairs a heavenly stem with an earthly branch, and every character belongs to one of five elements. The Day stem, your Day Master, represents you; the rest of the chart describes the forces around you: support, pressure, resources and outlets.

Questions people ask
What does a BaZi calculator do?
It converts your birth date and time into four pairs of Chinese characters — the Year, Month, Day and Hour pillars. Each pair is a heavenly stem and an earthly branch carrying one of the five elements. Together they form your BaZi ("eight characters") chart, which traditional readers use to describe temperament, strengths and timing.
Do I need my exact birth time?
It helps. The birth time sets your Hour pillar, which traditionally relates to ideas, children and later life. Without it you still get three pillars, your Day Master, element balance and luck cycles — the chart is simply less complete.
Why is my Chinese zodiac animal different from what I expected?
In BaZi the year changes at Li Chun, the start of spring, around February 4 — not at Chinese New Year. If you were born in January or early February, your animal may belong to the previous year. The calculator uses the exact solar-term moment.
Which time zone should I choose?
Choose the time zone of the place where you were born. The calculator converts your birth moment to the solar calendar and removes daylight saving time, as traditional BaZi uses standard clock time.
What is my Day Master?
The Day Master is the heavenly stem of your Day pillar — for example Bing Fire or Ren Water. It represents you in the chart, and every other character is read by how it supports, drains or challenges that element.
Is BaZi the same as Korean Saju?
Yes. Saju (사주, "four pillars") is the Korean name for the same system, using the same stems, branches and calculations. Your chart here is identical to a Saju chart; only the terminology differs.
Is this a prediction of my future?
No. BaZi is a traditional framework for reflection. It describes tendencies and seasons of life, not fixed outcomes, and it is not a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice.
